Resident - Jiro Chair
Designed to provide the comfort and ergonomics needed for periods of focus but with a material palette and visual lightness that works in a diverse range of commercial and domestic locations.
Jiro seeks to reduce a chair to its elemental parts and make each work as hard as possible to provide a responsive support.
Plywood was an obvious choice as it is both a natural material and technical process that allows great freedom of forms and fine control over the flexibility of parts.
Through a hands-on process on the factory floor different approaches to lamination and grain directions were developed to provide a rigid ergonomically shaped rail for back support that is mounted to a flexible support that can both twist and recline in response to a user's movement.
This dynamic back is mounted to a sculpted ergonomic seat that has an optional upholstered pad for further comfort.
The elemental but responsive seat is made in a range of finishes and is supported on a gas lift with a specially designed die cast base that can work both with and without casters.
