Tala - Loop lights
A family of aluminium lights from an extruded aluminum profile.
Complex forms often require multiple parts to be assembled in an additive process. Each junction and change of material being a possible point of failure threatening to cut lifetime and complicate disassembly for repair and recycling.
Loop takes an alternative approach as a single component, from a single material.
We developed an innovative subtractive manufacturing process that starts with a pair of complex co-axial extruded profiles that provide in a single part both the shade and fitting.
These blank profiles are then precisely machined to create each member of the family. Two profiles provide a large number of pendant, wall and table fittings.
Aluminium is used across the family naturally without any applied finish such as paint. Colour is applied through a process of dyeing that doesn’t require removal at end of life for recycling.
Aluminium is widely and can be infinitely recycled with no loss of value and performance. In fact recycling is so much more efficient than extracting from the ground that most aluminium already contains a large proportion of recycled material.
The single part, single material, design of loop seeks to make a robust and long lasting product that requires little or no tools to disassemble, so at the end of life the raw material used is both easy to reclaim and of a high value.
